Falls Church Neighborhoods: James Thurber Court

June 8, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

James Thurber Court is a community of 20 townhouses built in 1966, according to MRIS, our local MLS. With mature trees lining the street, the neighborhood is located just north of Lee Highway and Great Falls Street and is convenient to major commuting routes and bus routes. It’s also close to downtown Falls Church and is just over a half mile from the East Falls Church metro station.

With a walk score of 85, James Thurber court is “very walkable.” If you like live music and entertainment, the historic State Theater is sure to have something you’ll enjoy and is less than a quarter mile from the neighborhood. And you don’t have to bother trying to satisfy your hunger with a candy bar—more than a dozen restaurants are less than a half mile from residents’ front doors, including local favorites Clare & Don’s Beach Shack, Dogwood Tavern, and Ireland’s Four Provinces.

The neighborhood is popular, and currently there are no homes actively listed for sale in James Thurber Court, according to MRIS. Additionally, no homes are currently under contract in the community.

Once people move into James Thurber Court, they tend to stay. According to MRIS, the last house in the neighborhood that changed hands went to settlement in December of 2009. That house had three bedrooms, two full baths, and two half baths. It was listed for $725,000 and sold for $690,000 after sitting on the market for 63 days. Prior to that, just two homes in the neighborhood changed ownership since 2003.
