Falls Church Neighborhoods: Shreve Hill

August 16, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Shreve Hill is a community of nearly 20 single-family homes built in the late 1990s in Dunn Loring. One house is an “original” — that is, it was built in 1914 and still stands today. With the exception of the house built in the early 1900s, the houses have brick fronts with vinyl siding on the back and sides, and range in size from just shy of 2,500 square feet of living space to more than 3,800 square feet.

Located near the intersection of Idylwood Road and Gallows Road, Shreve Hill is convenient to major commuting routes, such as Leesburg Pike (Route 7) and the Beltway. It’s also just one mile from the Dunn Loring/Merrifield metro station.

With a walk score of 26, Shreve Hill is considered “car dependent.” However, there are plenty of restaurants just minutes from the neighborhood, including local favorites Idylwood Grill and Sea Pearl. The new Merrifield Town Center is coming along, and when it’s complete, there will be more choices for shopping, restaurants, and nightlife for the residents of Shreve Hill.

Currently, one home is actively listed for sale in Shreve Hill, according to MRIS, our local MLS. It’s a five-bed, 3.5-bath colonial with more than 3,100 square feet of living space. The home has been on the market for 39 days and has an asking price of $910,000.

No homes are currently under contract in Shreve Hill.

The neighborhood is popular, and in the past year, just one home changed hands in Shreve Hill. The house that sold was the neighborhood “original.” Built in 1914, it has three bedrooms, two and a half baths, and 1,930 square feet of living space, according to local tax records. The home sold for $699,000 after less than three weeks on the market.
